King of the Watch - A Challenger Hops the Pond!

Fri 12th Aug 2016 - 6:21am Gaming

Last week, reigning kings Prets barely held off the underdog ExAequeo, securing their crown for one more week in a 4:3 fight to the finish. With the challengers poised to show up, the champs better have shored up their shortcomings this past week; the King of the Watch event has not only turned up in diversity, but also in intensity!

Our first challenger comes from all the way across the pond; a North American hopeful by the name of Colorado Clutch! Clutch comes in as a top ten North America team contender, but has struggled recently against similar teams like Sodipop, Selfless, and NGB. They’ll be looking to bounce back this week and gain traction in the top tier of competition, but the ping disadvantage may prove a more daunting obstacle than its given credit for. One things for sure; if the small North American team can pull upsets over in Europe, they’ll definitely have confidence to bring back stateside.
Our second challenger, Evoks, has a shorter, but relevant history. The team out of Germany has a lot to prove, but have in fact taken matches off our reigning champions Prets, and games off recent KotW competitors like The Gatekeepers. They’ll be looking to pass right by their NA counterparts to get another shot at Prets!

The name of the game is Stopwatch: Both teams will play offense and defense on the same map. Teams play to complete the map in the fastest time they can manage. If both teams fail to complete the map on offense, the match is judged by which team progressed to the furthest objective.

King of the Watch will enforce a One Hero Limit in it's matches.

Two challenger teams will play in a Best of 3 (Bo3) series, in order to proceed to a Best of 7 (Bo7) match with the current champion.

Currently, all maps are allowed.

The loser of a map picks the next map.

The first map played in the Challenger Head to Head (Bo3) will be decided by the Tournament Organizers. Challenger is granted first map choice in the Best of 7.

The champion earns bragging rights as King of the Watch, alongside a whopping $300 for the team! The losing team gets to go back to the drawing board to figure out how to improve for next time…

Admin's note: The winning team will have their prize money distributed upon arrival to defend their title the following week.

The Tournament will be casted by “JoRoSaR” (@JoRoSaR) and “RaptorZ” (@RaptorZOW).
