King of the Watch - Do You Envy this Dynasty?

Thu 16th Jun 2016 - 3:45am Gaming

The second best team in NA continued their streak last week against VapeNation, sweeping the challenger team in 4 easy maps. With that, EnVyUs is now reaching the status of our previous multi-week champion, the old IDDQD (who, if memory serves, won five consecutive King of the Watch events). With all the restructuring happening in the top tiers of several Overwatch teams, it's hard to look ahead and guage whether there's a contender out there who might be able to stop them. I sure hope there's at least a team willing to step up to the challenge, otherwise I'll have to start subbing in the previews with a lot of New England Patriots jokes, and it's not necessarily easy to deflate mice or keyboards.

This week, we're finally back into the true swing of King of the Watch competition. Two challenger teams will properly face off for the right to play EnVyUs; a seasoned and proven pro team in Melty eSports, and a relatively new, untested team in Tropic Gaming. Tropic gaming comes in with a lot to prove, considering the skill cap and respect given to the Melty crew. Melty is likely feeling fairly confident in their solidarity for the first part of the match, and will surely be planning ahead for a brawl with EnVy. However, don't rule out Tropic and be sure to tune in for that first match. If Tropic has the capability of pulling off an upset against Melty in the Best of 3, they may certainly have what it takes to dethrone the kings.

The name of the game is Stopwatch: Both teams will play offense and defense on the same map. Teams play to complete the map in the fastest time they can manage. If both teams fail to complete the map on offense, the match is judged by which team progressed to the furthest objective.

Two challenger teams will play in a Best of 3 (Bo3) series, in order to proceed to a Best of 7 (Bo7) match with the current champion.

Currently, all maps are allowed.

The loser of a map picks the next map.

The first map played in the Challenger Head to Head (Bo3) will be decided by the Tournament Organizers. Challenger is granted first map choice in the Best of 7.

The champion earns bragging rights as King of the Watch, alongside a whopping $300 for the team! The losing team gets to go back to the drawing board to figure out how to improve for next time…
