King of the Watch - Open Beta Weekend

Thu 5th May 2016 - 5:57am Gaming

You know, the world could use more... Overwatch? Something something about the calvary being here?

Ok, ok, so Tracer isn't the host of King of the Watch, but you can definitely expect to see her in some fashion or another this week, as the KotW returns for another brawl! We hope that you've been enjoying the Overwatch open beta weekend (we know we have), and we're excited to get back right into competitive matches this Friday!

Now, amidst the excitement of the Open Beta, there's been a lot of busy bodies in competitive teams... Also known as teams being unable to compete during KotW's regular scheduled time. Which is fine; there's a lot of Over to Watch (Watch to be Over?). That being said, we're still bringing you some competitive King of the Watch action. This week, is back to defend their King of the Watch title (back-to-back-to-back), against their rival challenger, MyDong Rogue. If you've been under an Overwatch rock (or playing too much to notice), MyDong decided to hang their hallmark name up, in favor of the new brand "Rogue". Regardless of their team name, the roster of Rogue is certainly ready to bring their best against!

Open Beta ends on May 9th, 2016, so King of the Watch will also be taking a break during the game's down time. Overwatch will release May 24th, so be ready for King of the Watch to promptly return on the 27th, and (finally) hope back on a regular weekly schedule for the tournaments.

Matches are played on the competitive format that Blizzard released! Rules will be the same as ranked mode in Overwatch.

Seeing as this is hard to do with Competitive Mode being disabled during Open Beta, we're throwing it back! The name of the game is Stopwatch: Both teams will play offense and defense on the same map. Teams play to complete the map in the fastest time they can manage. If both teams fail to complete the map on offense, the match is judged by which team progressed to the furthest objective.

A Best of 3 (Bo3) preceeds the Best of 7 (Bo7) series, allowing all available maps. First team to win four sets takes home the match and the crown!

Currently, all maps are allowed.

The loser of a map picks the next map.

Challenger is granted first map choice in the Best of 7.

The champion earns bragging rights as King of the Watch, alongside a whopping $300 for the team! The losing team gets to go back to the drawing board to figure out how to improve for next time…
