King of the Watch - Ranked Overwatch is Here!

Thu 30th Jun 2016 - 2:47am

Overwatch here, Overwatch there, Overwatch has literally been everywhere! Welcome back everyone to King of the Watch! Did you miss us? Ok, be honest, after all of the Overwatch events that have taken place, been announced, and are maybe even happening as you’re reading this article, it’s ok to say that you might have left KotW on a bit of a backburner. Or, even if you haven’t been watching all the tournaments available, you’ve probably already lost more hours than you want to count grinding that Competitive Ladder that released yesterday. But that’s fine; King of the Watch is back and ready for more competitive Overwatch! (and to give you a break from the ladder grind, at least briefly).

If you’ve forgotten where we stand after that week off, Team EnVyUs need not remind you that they currently hold the throne (and the throne as the best team in Overwatch, in general). They’ll look to continue their stream roll of the Overwatch scene this week, against one of the two new challengers.
A newcomer to King of the Watch, Gale Force eSports has stepped up to the plate, electing to play on EU’s time and represent the strength of the North American region. Gale Force has shown some shining moments, toppling teams like Liquid and the Northern Gaming squads (Blue and Red), and they’ll now set their sights on getting clean shot at EnVyUs’s podium.
However, the North Americans will have to go through a stalwart SG-1 team to get there. SG-1 has been participating in Competitive Overwatch since it has been a genre, but the seasoned team has been struggling as of late against the top teams in Europe. They’ll look to turn their recent experience around this Friday.

The name of the game is Stopwatch: Both teams will play offense and defense on the same map. Teams play to complete the map in the fastest time they can manage. If both teams fail to complete the map on offense, the match is judged by which team progressed to the furthest objective.

Two challenger teams will play in a Best of 3 (Bo3) series, in order to proceed to a Best of 7 (Bo7) match with the current champion.

Currently, all maps are allowed.

The loser of a map picks the next map.

The first map played in the Challenger Head to Head (Bo3) will be decided by the Tournament Organizers. Challenger is granted first map choice in the Best of 7.

The champion earns bragging rights as King of the Watch, alongside a whopping $300 for the team! The losing team gets to go back to the drawing board to figure out how to improve for next time…

Creation eSports wants to remind everyone about the support the tournament receives from Matcherino! (@Matcherino). Matcherino offers the opportunity to donate to the tournament prize pool! Be sure to catch the announcement in stream chat to donate a free $1 thanks to Matcherino!

The Tournament will be casted by “JoRoSaR” (@JoRoSaR) and “AskJoshy” (@AskJoshy).
